OCWA - Notice to Residents

OCWA continues to confirm the construction material of water service lines as part of its Water Service Line Inventory, an unfunded federal regulatory mandate. From now through June, OCWA crews and contractors will visit approximately 1,200 randomly selected properties across OCWA’s five-county service area (about 1% of customers). These visits are to visually identify the construction material of underground water service lines.

We will be visiting properties in the Clay area over the next few weeks.

Here is what property owners can expect:

Several days prior to the visit, an OCWA employee will mark the area of the service line with blue paint and flags. Some homes may have already been marked.

  1. A door hanger will be left on the door of the customer’s home or business indicating that the line may be investigated in the coming days.
  2. On the day of investigation, OCWA contractor, T&K Harrington will use vacuum excavating, a safe and non-destructive method, to uncover a small section of the water service line near the property line.
  3. The pipe will be visually checked and photographed, to record the material.
  4. A Water Service Line Material Report Card, indicating the service line material observed, will be left at the customer’s door the same day.
  5. The hole will be filled immediately, and restoration of the small area disturbed (typically with the application of grass seed) will be completed within approximately 2 weeks.

Customers do not need to be home, and water service should not be interrupted. You can find additional information at:
